Ninh Binh, often called the inland Halong Bay, is famous for its stunning limestone hills.
The town itself is pretty ordinary, but the countryside beautifully showcases rural Vietnam. With winding rivers cutting through caves and farmers working their fields with water buffaloes, the scenery here is captivating. Tam Coc, though beautiful, is known for being crowded with tourists and vendors.
To have a quieter experience, visit other amazing cave areas. Friendly local guides can row you through waterways leading to lakes surrounded by limestone mountains. You can also bike along paths through rice fields or explore the ancient ruins and temples in Hoa Lua, Vietnam’s former capital, and the Cuc Phuong National Park.
Ninh Binh is just a two-hour drive from Hanoi, making it doable as a day trip, but staying one or two nights is recommended to truly enjoy this enchanting place.
