Itinerary idea in detail

  • 1

Take a private shuttle to your hotel when you arrive in Hanoi. This afternoon, I want to get to know Chuck Searcy, a Vietnam War veteran. He is now the Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, having returned to Vietnam in 1992. You can usually ask questions and learn about his experiences after two hours.

  • 2

Take a guided city tour today with your driver and guide. See the Temple of Literature, the first university in Hanoi, the old residence of Ho Chi Minh, and the Fine Arts Museum, which has an amazing collection of sculptures and artwork. Following lunch, Vietnam War veteran Tam will take you on a tour of important Vietnam War locations.

  • 3

Your driver and guide will pick you up today and take you three hours south of the capital to Thanh Hoa City. See the Ham Rong Bridge, which the Viet Cong valiantly guarded throughout the Vietnam War.

  • 4

Get back to Hanoi early today to catch your flight to Hue at midday. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and taken to your city hotel. Explore the Imperial Citadel this afternoon with your guide to discover more about its stormy history and how it has persevered over the ages.

  • 5

Proceed inland today to the hilly A Luoi district. Along the way, stop at the Ashau Valley and “Hamburger Hill” and see the military bases at Binh Dien and Bastogne.

  • 6

Proceed into the Democratic People’s Zone (DMZ), making stops at military locations such as the old Khe Sanh American military post, The Rockpile, Camp Carol, Dakrong suspension bridge, Tacon airfields, and Lang Vei Special Force Camp.

  • 7

See the Mine Action Visitor Center this morning, then take the Vinh Moc Tunnels and the DMZ back to Hue.

  • 8

Transfer to Hoi An this morning via the scenic Hai Van Pass. See military sights along the way, such as Camp Eagle, Lang Co beach, the old US Consulate grounds, and the Marble Mountains.

  • 9

This all-day journey takes you to Quang Ngai, a small village in a region of Vietnam that suffered some of the worst combat. A monument honoring the residents of My Lai hamlet, where more than 500 people perished in one of the most horrific incidents of the War, is located close to the town.

  • 10

You will get the chance to learn more about the Viet Cong’s covert network of tunnels at Cu Chi after your trip to Ho Chi Minh City.

  • 13

What a great way to see more of Vietnam! Our tour guide Linh looked after us well and knew a lot about Vietnam. The bike ride was tough for us beginners but we managed to finish it. The team was always patient and made sure we were safe. Big thanks to Linh and the team for going the extra mile! If you get to go with this team ask them for food recommendations!

I booked Cycle Thailand to Cambodia in 2023. Stephen at Amazing Bike Tours was excellent, very helpful, responsive and knowledgeable. In particular, our local tour guide Tom was outstanding. He was essential to connecting with local village people, visit remote villages, and explore exotic food. Can't wait for my next adventure

We spent 12 days with Amazing Bike Tours from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh via Battambang. Our tour was perfectly tailored to our route and physical condition and on the last day, we were safely transported to our beach accommodation in Sihanoukville. The organization was flawless from start to finish. The accommodation was also comfortable, allowing us to rest well after eventful days. The tour provided great value for money. The experiences were unique and could fill two vacation reports! The bikes were perfectly adjusted to our needs, with well-maintained gears and brakes. If there was a minor issue, the guide promptly addressed it. The minivan support was modern and very comfortable. The driver was excellent and we felt safe! Besides the visual impressions, we learned a lot about the country and its people.
