Itinerary idea in detail

  • Day 1

Travel to Ben Tre, a town at the delta’s entrance. Hop on a small boat for a tour of the region known as Vietnam’s rice bowl. Vietnam is a leading rice exporter, thanks to the Mekong’s climate allowing multiple rice harvests annually. Seafood, particularly shrimp and catfish, is another key export.

Visit a home-based coconut processing factory to see how oil, flesh, and husks are used for products like matting and candy. Next, transfer to Mekong Cruise, a converted rice barge, for a Mekong River cruise. Participate in a Vietnamese cooking demo and savor a three-course lunch. Enjoy the scenery on your return to Ben Tre before heading to Can Tho, the delta’s main economic center.

  • Day 2

Start your day early with a boat journey to Cai Rang township to witness the lively floating market. Experience vendors selling goods from boats, bustling with produce, and treat yourself to coffee from a floating café. Afterward, drive around three hours to Chau Doc, a charming town near the Vietnam-Cambodia border.

In the afternoon, drive around 20 kilometers from Chau Doc to Tra Su Forest. Embark on a sampan ride through a network of waterways bordered by mangroves and lush greenery. This 850-hectare ecological reserve is home to diverse wildlife, including over 100 water bird species and bat colonies. Explore the forest, especially stunning from September to November. Enroute, visit an ethnic Khmer village to learn about Buddhism’s significance in the community and engage with monks at the local monastery.

  • Day 3

Explore the Mekong Delta with its winding waterways, vibrant paddy fields, and bustling floating markets. Embark early on a small boat to Chau Doc’s renowned floating market, a hub for traders and farmers. Witness the vibrant trade of fruits, vegetables, and fish. Visit a local Cham Village to learn about this unique cultural group. Cruise towards Sam Mountain, passing the historic Vinh Te Canal. Arrive at Sam Mountain to visit iconic temples with stunning panoramas. Conclude with lunch at Nui Sam Lodge for breathtaking countryside views.

Immerse yourself in the serene paddy fields of Chau Doc to experience the authentic Mekong Delta. Cycle along quiet dirt paths through timeless villages and bustling fields. Enjoy a picnic breakfast and traditional drinks before continuing your journey. Interact with locals and capture the scenic beauty of Southern Vietnam. Return to your hotel for a well-deserved rest. Overnight in Chau Doc.

  • Day 4

Today your Heart of the Delta tour ends with a transfer back to Ho Chi Minh City, a roughly six-hour drive with plenty of rest stops.

What a great way to see more of Vietnam! Our tour guide Linh looked after us well and knew a lot about Vietnam. The bike ride was tough for us beginners but we managed to finish it. The team was always patient and made sure we were safe. Big thanks to Linh and the team for going the extra mile! If you get to go with this team ask them for food recommendations!

I booked Cycle Thailand to Cambodia in 2023. Stephen at Amazing Bike Tours was excellent, very helpful, responsive and knowledgeable. In particular, our local tour guide Tom was outstanding. He was essential to connecting with local village people, visit remote villages, and explore exotic food. Can't wait for my next adventure
